Meals & Snacks

Breakfast: Breakfast is served from 8:30-8:50am. in the Multi-Purpose Room.Lunch: Children eat lunch in the Multi-Purpose Room on the first floor. The kindergarten lunchtime is from 11:15 to 11:45. The primary lunchtime is from 12:35 to 1:00. The intermediate lunch time is from 12:05 to 12:30. Hot lunch is available. Sack lunches brought from home must be ready to eat. There are no accommodations for heating or preparing food in the lunch room.

Meal Tickets: You may buy meal tickets in advance for breakfast hot lunch and/or milk. Your child will be notified when you need to add more money. Three charges are allowed, just in case they forget to tell you. Free or reduced-price meals are available according to a family’s income. (Please note, it takes 2 to 3 weeks for this to be activated by the school district and kindergarten students are not automatically added to older siblings’ accounts. You will be responsible for lunches purchased prior to activation.)

Snack: Each child provides snack on a rotating basis in kindergarten and primary classes. (In intermediate classrooms, children bring their own snacks.) The snack calendar will come home at the beginning of each month. Please send enough of two kinds of food (i.e. cheese and crackers) for the number of children in the class. Avoid highly sugared or salted foods. Try to make snacks nutritious and appealing. Snacks must meet the ASD nutritional guidelines. Your child is your best source about what the class likes. Make sure to check with the teacher about food allergies.

Snack Suggestions:

Breads: Crackers, mini-bagels, muffins, nut breads, whole grain breads, rice cakes, biscuits or scones. You may include butter, cream cheese or peanut butter for spreading.

Fruits and Vegetables: Oranges, apples, grapes, strawberries, melon slices, raisins, other dried fruits, carrots, celery, cherry tomatoes, cucumber sticks, broccoli

Protein: Cheeses of all types, nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds
