Guidelines For Working In A Montessori Classroom
- Always be aware that you are modeling behavior when you are in the classroom. Follow the rules along with the children.
- Use a quie, respectful voice.
- Walk across the room to talk to a child. Children should walk across the room to you and, if interupting, wait quietly to get your attention.
- Sit only on the chairs or floor. Push your chair in after using it.
- Children may only choose work from the shelf if they have had either an individual or group presentation on it.
- Children may take work to a table or to the floor. If a child works on the floor he/she must get a mat out first.
- Work activities are returned to the same shelf and the same place as it was taken.
- Materials are used respectfully and for the purpose intended.
- Children usually do their own work. If a child wants to help or work with another child they need to ask first.
- Lights turned off or a ringing bell means freeze and listen.
