17th Annual Bear Valley
5K Challenge
Family Fun Run/Walk
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Race Day: Saturday May 17th

Location: Bear Valley Elementary School

(Park at Bear Valley School at the top of Rabbit Creek Road. The actual race starts at Storck Park which is located next door to the school. The race finishes in the school ice rink. A map to get to Bear Valley Elementary School should be with your race bib.)

Race Start: 10 am

Race Fee: Child, Jr. High, Sr. High = $6
Adult = $9
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
This is a smaller race than many around town (around 275 participants compared to the Heart Run’s 7,000) which makes it less intimidating.

The Bear Valley 5K course is on dirt roads and trails. Given the added snow in recent weeks, I’m guessing the trail could be muddy in places so I wouldn’t suggest wearing your brand new sneakers.

All you need to do is fill out the registration form and return it to Mr. Horning by Friday, May 9th. Mr. Horning will turn in the registration forms, pick up the bibs, and distribute them to the students in school the week of May 12th. If you miss this deadline there is race day registration from 8:30 - 9:30.

If you have any questions call Mr. Horning at Denali - 742-4500 or call Bear Valley
Community Schools at 345-0434 (bearvalleycommunityassoc.org)

Rise to the challenge, get physically active, and go for it!

Has your child been working on social thinking in the speech and language program this year?? Do you know someone with good language skills who has difficulty being a social thinker? Have you heard us talk all year about Michelle Garcia-Winner? Does your student talk about what is expected and unexpected? You may enjoy this DVD, which will introduce the rationale behind the lessons that have been given.

Denali Montessori will show the first hour of Michelle Garcia Winner’s DVD on Social thinking on May 14, at 6:30pm.

Cross Country Running

Friday, October 12th, 2007

run.jpgCongratulations on a job well done to the one hundred Denali students who participated in the after school cross country running program this fall. Of those, seventy-eight participated in the cross country running jamboree September 28th (the second most of any school)! This was a huge event held at Bartlett High School drawing over 1,000 students from the north side of the district. Denali’s highest female finisher was Katherine M. who came in 3rd in her division with a time of 7:55. The highest finishing male finisher was Thomas O. who came in 3rd in his division with a time of 6:52. Seven students from Denali finished in the top ten of their respective divisions. Check out all the results and photos from the event on the bulletin board outside the gym. Thank you to all those parents who helped out at practices and at the jamboree, and a special thanks goes to Linda Klinkhart and the PTA for organizing a tent and refreshments at the event.

Book Fair Blizzard

Friday, October 12th, 2007

books.jpgJoin us in sharing a love of reading with our students at Denali’s Scholastic Book Fair on Nov. 6th, 7th & 8th. It’s a great way to connect your kids with books they want to read! We need lots of volunteers to make this fair a success. To volunteer, contact the co-chairs, add your name to the sign up sheet on the PTA bulletin board at school, or visit the Denali website at www.denalischool.org and click on the book fair link. One way everyone can help is to spread the word. Your family, friends, neighbors, and business partners might also want to visit our fair. Everyone wins - they get great, affordable books and the Denali PTA gets a percentage of sales! Click here to visit their website and to sign up to volunteer.

Denali Book Fair

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

The Denali Library and the PTA are planning a Book Fair for the first week of November during conferences. They have developed a fabulous website with all sorts of fun stuff to help you get ready. Parents can preview books or sign up to volunteer.  Lots of volunteers are needed to make this a successful event.  Students can make a wish list of books, preview featured books, write a story and enter it in a contest to be published, choose books to buy for their classroom and more. Click here to visit their site.
